Help required to undo tilt tube

hi guys i have an 85 hp evinrude an oldie the tilt tube is badly rusted and needs to come out it seems to have two nuts one either side of the transom bracket but they are inset into the brackets and the lock nut is the only one you can use a spanner on ony ideas would be appreciated thanks warnie

I don't understand the question..... You only need to remove the lock nut. The one in back of it is simply a spacer with no threads. The threaded one on the other side can be removed when you slide the steering tube out in that direction.

thanks kim i am trying to get hold of a heat torch today will keep advised

yes idont think parts are gona be a problem but i guess i will have to use a pipe wrench or somthing to unscrew it
