Help replacingBurned up starter wires on 1985 Johnson 9.9

Well pulled a bone head stupid trick yesterday. Working on a Johnson 9.9 1985 I recently got that has problems. I hooked up the water hose and then the battery with jumper cables to start it and even though I checked I somehow reversed the hookup POS to NEG NEG to POS. I hit the starter switch and it just clicked, hit it once again just momentary and turned around to begin checking for what was wrong. Turned back around and smoke coming from under cowling. I immediately knocked the jumper off the battery and removed the cowling. Smoke coming from under the motor mostly. After all cleared I see that the red wire from the rectifier is burned thru at the terminal strip. Probably at least melted insulation under motor. Is there any easy way to replace these wires without removing the motor? Reroute new wires without removing the old wires maybe? I have the wiring diagram for the electrical system and it looks like the starter wiring is pretty simple. Just Start button, Neutral safety switch, rectifier and starter.
Thanks before hand from bonehead in Pennsylvania

I assume that you know that reverse polarity immediately destroys the rectifier?

The rectifier requires replacing.

The remaining wires.... replace them as needed, a wire at a time.

Now....Don't Ever Do That Again!! :)
