Hello, I wonder if anyone has any suggestions. My 2002 8HP Mercury does not seem to be reaching the RPM it use to and is a little slow to accelerate. It is running very smoothly just not reaching power.
I have rebuilt the carburetor and put new plugs in but that did not make a difference. I have checked the resistance on both coils and they seem ok (around 900ohm on the secondary).
When I take the input off the first coil only it will not start but, starts fine if I take the input off the second coil only (I'm not sure if this is telling me anything?). Also with the input off the first coil it is significantly less under powered.
I do not know how to test the switch box. I tried testing the resistance (with the motor off) of both leads from the switch to the coil (ie disconnected from the coil) but on a digital multimeter it does not give a reading.
I thought about the accelerator linkages maybe not fully travelling but if I put it on full throttle and then advance the carburetor valve it does not rev higher.
I am not a mechanic but can follow instructions well if anyone else has any ideas.
Thanks in advance.
Dean
