Help on running

I have a 1976 johnson, 70 horsepower, and i'm having the hold the choke in to keep it running any suggestions

Clean the carburetors.

Just got the kits in today,I'm sure it's fuel delivery,I've got spark and compression,bought a new fuel tank and primer also,it's was running good,but got it to the lake and it would fire for a minute and just die right out,but I noticed if I hold the choke in it idled fairly decent

You installed the kits today ?----Part # and source of the kits ?

18-7222 made by Sierra.... I finally was able to take one of the carburetors apart today. When I took off the float bowl, I noticed that the float was level straight across the carburetor and I checked the drop on the float, and it was three quarters of an inch.So I installed the new float and measured it the exact same as the other one with a 3/4 drop,but when I turn the carb right side up the float is not level any more,but the drop is 3/4 is that normal?
