" my freind has a 1978 50 hp ok what happend was that we were going to put the motor on a different boat but it took us a while to get a around to it well when we did get it all rigged up when you turn the key it did nothing. also this engine ran like a top on the previous boat. so i got out my fluke tester and i found that a wire going to the control box control box had broke so we got that fixed and the key turns the motor over fine now but we have no spark we cleand all the connections and poped of the fly wheel and cleaned the magnets when we get it back to gether still nothing happens what do you think the problem is with my friends boat thanks ,josh hildreth "

"Disconnect the black wire tha

"Disconnect the black wire that has a yellow stripe (black/yellow) at the powerpack. If you now have spark, that black/yellow wire is either grounded out somewhere or the ignition switch has failed. To test the switch (if you have spark) reconnect that black/yellow wire to the pack, then remove the black/yellow wire from the back of the ignition switch, then re-check the spark.

we already did that still not

we already did that still nothing

"If you've also done the f

"If you've also done the following, list everything you have done so that I don't bother with it. The ignition system on that engine is self contained and does not depend on any outside source for power ie the engine would have ignition and could run with nothing hooked up to it. Disconnect the large wiring harness connector so that the only wiring going to the engine is the two battery cables. Remove the spark plugs. Crank the engine by running a jumper from the battery side of the starter side of the starter solenoid to the small terminal there that engages the starter.... and observe for the spark. If there's no spark observed, you've either had a p/pack fail, or (less likely) the stator/charge coil under the flywheel has failed.
