Just low and left of the top prop drive Drain/fill plug, there is a hole @ 1/16 to 1/8 ". Is this a vent hole or has the plug come out? I noticed it when i tilted motor forward and gear oil leaked. Doesn't seem threaded..

Most likely you're referri

Most likely you're referring to a water drain hole ... and the "gear oil" is actually unburned 2-stroke oil that mixed in with the water in the exhaust housing!

"Wow. It does smell exhaust like, not hypoid. There is a lot of it. I just got this motor. Replaced plugs, changed gear oil, set the slow idle adjustment. Pump/choke works good. It lit right up. It was dieing at 1st. After plugs and adjustment, starts 3 days in a row cold on 1st pull, idles VERY smooth, and was headed to lake to see how runs at throttle. Is that "unburned" excess normal? This was an original 100/1 mix issue and I'm mixed at EXACTLY 50/1. Do I have another potential problem?.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, but you might want to de-carbon the motor with some Sea Foam. Improved compression would probably lessen the amount of unburned fuel. Also might try using a full synthetic 2-stroke oil."

"I have not. Will have to buy a guage/tester. The motor had sat for 2 years and ran only once during that time. I'll do that, I'd feel better knowing. Also I intend to clean and kit the carb...doesn't look too complicated from the diagrams.
