first time in the forum. I have an 87 fourwinns 160 freedom with the 3.0 mercruiser inboard. I had it winterized two years ago and didn't take it out last year. I dewinterized it today put new battery and turned the key and nothing but a click at selinoid on the starter. So I put key in the on position and used a screw driver and got the motor turning over. Put gas in the carb and it just would not start. Next I pulled the distributor cap and turned it over and im not getting any spark either.
Tried to hot wire it to see if it was the switch but just the same click. IT has the 50 amp reset button over the motor checked it doesn't seem to be the culprate either. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated supposed to take it out tomorrow.
Thanks Whit Lofty

a no spark condition is most likely glazed over points preventing a good contact. Clean with fine sandpaper/nail file and see if there is spark.
A click is most likely the save solenoid contacts, jump the 2 large lugs on the slave to see if main solenoid operates the starter

jumped it and motor turned over but not getting spark points and all that stuff looks good

got to be clear, you jumped the slave or the main solenoid on the starter? With key "on" check for 12v at the + side of the coil, clean points with sandpaper/nail file and check for spark.

the main starter solenoid that you would normally jump on a car is attached to the starter, the slave is smaller and usually on the engine

you need to locate the slave solenoid, that should be the one you hear clicking. There is a yellow/red striped wire on the main solenoid. look for another relay with that same yellow/red stripe . that relay is tripped by the ign start position
