Hi I am after some help before I take to a spe******t, I bought a boat at the beginning of the season it has a 90 hp 6 cyl mercury blue band engine on it, now it has been running fine on the lake except sometimes on the odd occasion it just clicked a couple of times when trying to start then just fired up fine. But that didn't happen that much everything else was good it ran like new!
now I took the boat out on the sea for the first time started up first time drove about a mile then it just died and again it clicked for a while then 5 mins later it started and I drove back to shore but it was quite sluggish then conked out again! Left it for 10 mins started back up again drove a mile again and it conked out again but this time it was not starting at all! I took the boat out the water and took it home, now I bought a new battery and stripped back wires on the battery as looked in poor condition and re connected tried starting and nothing just clicked then noticed some combing from leads from the starter motor and battery so disconnected, then I checked the connections engine side and starter motor and solnoid connections where very loose so tightened them up still no joy.
now when I tried starting with the key the starter engaged but stopped as if not enough power to turn the fly wheel to start I tried to turn manually with my hands and it turns a couple of times each way then it jams and I can't manually turn it anymore! I have took the spark plugs out and two of the cylinders I can see some time of metal object moving back and forth which seems to be stopping the fly wheel turning anymore?? I am not sure if this is normal or not? Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated thanks
