Help!! mercruiser 350 mag mpi engine block with a crack
Went to pull the boat out of storage yesterday. Come to find out I forgot to take out one plug (I could just throw up). Pulled the motor out today and noticed that the motor block has a decent sized crack in it. Is there a way to weld it or am I better off spending the money on a brand new motor block? And if I do need a whole new motor block where might I find a decently priced one?

Sorry to hear about your engine crack!

Yes of course installing a new block is going to be the best, safest and the right thing to do but in the meantime you may want to see if the crack went inwards too as to see if the engine is now making oil / filling up the engine oil level while the engine is running......If it's not making oil, you could try sealing up the crack on the outside and go run the boat and keep a really good eye on everything multiple times throughout the day during each trip out. Also watch under the valve cover for milky oil too.

Be sure all your on the water towing insurance plans are valid though.....Good luck.

Ryan, I saw a new product on this web site, welding rods that work on castiron using just a plain welding torch, That thread was posted within the last 2 days
