You need to do a compression and spark test before anything. Some of those parts are pricey
Thanks for the help! It has compression n spark fs. Almost would be a fun project for the winter but we'll aware these things don't get done over the winter for a number of reasons. Im assuming the best choice would be to pickup a 90s or newer outboard. But if replacing and converting to a tiller and having enough a2$ behind it to move a 20 foot jon comes in under 2k for a 40hp outboard on marketplace then it may be a potential move.

These are a smooth-running motor.----Simple and do not require $120/HR dealer support.-----They are thirsty so not a good choice if you use it every day.----Install a new impeller before using this motor.

Are you doing the work yourself ?-----Have you determined that the motor needs rebuilding ?------I often take small motors of that vintage apart and find they are like new inside.-----The motor may have had small creatures living near the block.----Makes it look bad.------You will be shocked by what a shop rebuild costs on these.----Many parts listed on this site for more than reasonable ( cheap ) while the quantity lasts.
