Just bought a 1995 sweet water! Excited to get the family out on the water, the kids are ecstatic!!! I am having an issue as to find the serial number the plate that should have it , is blank.! I read and tried finding it other places with no luck, I want to replace the impeller, and these two , what I call them power trim cables that the rubber is deteriorated and trim doesn’t work. I’ve attached pictures, please help me get my family on the water! Also, what is the correct name for these wires I want to replace! 1995 sweetwater with 40hp mariner magnum. Not sure of serial number or year. Won’t let me upload pics says too large

If the engine is original to the boat, it would be the 4 cylinder 40 hp but can't be sure without at least a picture. I don't know what you mean by power trim cables, are you talking about the battery cables?

Now I see, you need to open the manual release screw to be able to tilt it up to repair that wiring. There is a larger straight slot screw on the bottom of the engine mounting bracket on the starboard side. Back that screw out no more than 3 turns to release the hydraulics so you can tilt it up to splice new wires coming out of the trim motor and pump. Yes, it is the 4 cylinder version so now we know what you have.

Thank you, so I can just splice into that, and it will be fine? I don’t need a whole new wire / harness ? Is there Anyway ro
Identify the serial number so I can order a new impeller ?

My advice, tear it apart and see what you need. Have you checked the gear oil in this to see if there is any water in the oil? Start from scratch before you order 1 penny of parts. Do a compression test, compression on all 4 cylinders should be 125-135 psi., Check spark, should be 3/8" gap spark on a spark checker, check gearcase for water in the oil. The motor looks pretty rough from neglect. Do the checks before you start to tell the kids to bait up their hooks.

Ran great at end of last season, got from family member and they told me. No water in gear oil but it was in deed very low

I’m going to have to get the proper tools to check compression and teach myself how to do it. Besides the frayed wires that are deteriorating, what else screams neglect , I’m just curious, take it easy on me! Really want to get the kids on the water. I just talked to the family member I got it from and they said there were no issues with it when they pulled it last fall. Very low hour/. Minimal use.
