Help identify my motor. Mariner

Hello, I was hoping somebody on here could help me identify year and hp of my mariner engine.
There is a number on the block I believe to be the serial number, says 6 121686. It is a 3 cyl. 2 stroke with 2 carbs. It is also a 2 piece cowling.
Thanks in advance for the help!!
Paul.

That isn't the serial number, that's a part number or casting number of some sort.

Being a 3 cylinder model makes it a Mercury Mariner - so just a Merc with different paint/decals.

When you say "2 piece cowling" I am assuming you mean the clam shell style two piece "top" cowl.

Since it only has two carbs that would suggest it is most likely a 50 or 60 horse model.

There should be a "plate" on the transom bracket that will contain the serial number.

If you are standing behind the motor (so looking at the prop), check on the bracket that hooks it to the boat on the right hand side - below the point where it "tilts" - it should be facing outwards/clearly visible - black plate with a bit of info on it.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately the motor has been stripped and painted, while doing this they removed the serial number tag.
I have been told by a local marina it is an 87-89 60 HP and he has been able to get me parts. Thanks again for the reply!
