Hi i am new to this forum. I recently bought a 1962 glasspar boat with a evenrude starflite 4 motor but i can not find any serial numbers where they should be. so the question is there another way to tell year and hp? maybe it is hopeless but i have to try want to take my 3 year old out in the boat she is super excited. so any help would be great so i can get it in the water.

You state "i can not find any serial numbers where they should be."

You could explain just where it is you looked. Perhaps you overlooked an area.

i looked on the bracket that clamps the engine to the boat and it wasnt there and i looked on the plug on the powerhead and couldnt make any thing out on it.

Yea, that's the two main places the numbers would be. Hopefully the hood is original and hasn't been repainted. If you could post a picture of that from various angles, perhaps someone here could pinpoint the year and hp for you. No two years ever had the same design or paint scheme..

It's pretty safe to assume that it is a 75hp Evinrude being given that "Starflite 4" entitlement.

i need a water pump so was hoping to find out what it is. by the way is there anything special about replacing this pump or do i just take the bolts out of the bottom and it just pulls off?

That hood looks like a 1962 75hp Evinrude model to me.

Water pump kit is part number 379776.

If electric shift, disconnect the shift wires at the rear starboard powerhead area and tie a long strong string or flexible wire to them so that you can pull the shift wires back easily when ready.

Remove side plate (2 screws) from long exhaust housing, then remove the inner plate. If mechanical shift, remove one (1) bolt from the brass shift connector you would see inside.

Now, simply remove the lower unit retaining bolts. Use a hand held propane torch to help free frozen bolts to avoid bolt breakage.

i see two screws on brass shifter behind plate do you remove both?

Now, you aren't paying attention.:) The following copied from my previous reply #10 above.......

"If mechanical shift, remove one (1) bolt from the brass shift connector you would see inside."

Removing just one allows you to line up the shift rod with the "already installed" shift connector. Be sure to have the shift rod reinstalled exactly where it belongs.

ok got it out and the impellor is stiff and formed in one direction so i think thats my problem. and from what i hear is common for a motor that sits for awhile. thanks.
