Help! I have 1975 70hp Johnson crank-no start

New member
Put new starter in and checked solenoid. Ran. Serviced lower unit, new impeller, water intake screen. Replaced control box and cables. Tried to sync etc...i don't think I have it right? Some help would be appreciated...my first boat. Shops wont work on it cause its old like me. Ha.
 
Charge battery and load test the battery.------Disconnect black / yellow wire on powerpack.----Test for spark.--

You're stating what you've done & what you think... NOT what the engine is actually doing or not doing which is what the technicians here require.

As far as the sync & link...... Back the roller away from the cam so that there is NO pressure against the throttle butterflies... Adjust the linkages between the throttle butterflies so that they open and close at the same time. You do not want one slightly open while the others are closed... Now, adjust the throttle roller so that when the scribe mark of the metal cam is dead center with the roller, the butterflies just start to open, not before or after.

That's it UNLESS you've changed the measurement between the vertical throttle arm and the metal cam, and if you have, then you'll need to reset the Idle Timing to whatever the service manual states, usually 2 or 3 degrees.

If you have a slow cranking engine, assuming the battery, main cables, and starter are in like new condition... thoroughly clean the terminals of all cables and wires associated with the electric starter system including the components they attach to... then tighten them with a wrench or pliers, not your fingers if wing nuts are encountered.

Be precise in describing the problem to obtain precise answers.
