Mariner 40ML 6E9 L 362455 Year Z

I looked up the year code and it says 2001, is this correct? I am also having a hard time finding a good place to order parts from since I cant find this model number in any database.

Does anyone know where I can order parts for this motor online?

I see it as being a 1993 model year motor. The equivalent of a Yamaha USA 40XXXX model. The XXXX denoting the specific configuration of the motor. Long shaft/short shaft/manual start/electric start/jet drive/etc..

Like Racer, I think it looks like an early 80's. I have a nearly Identical outboard in my shop, complete and running....but remote, not tiller. I understood the Mercury Mariner/Yamaha partnership folded up 1984?

For what it's worth? Pretty reliable source.

Ran out of time on edit.
For what it's worth? Pretty reliable source. Closer exam of my 40 Mariner here, indicates it's an early 80's. Another newer Mariner 25 off a pontoon boat, excellent condition, indicates mid to late 80's, but certainly a Mercury....with no choke, only primer/ enrichener. I have several 25 Mercury's that are virtually identical and love 'em.

Many shops dislike the enrichener/primer system and just last season a customer recovered his 18 hp from the shop after I found out what happened....I sent him down there.... The motor was in the guy's junk/parts shed. I rounded up the choke/enrichener parts and cleaned up the motor and sold it, then we split the money The guy I sold it to and his dad became great friends. Some professional shops, this guy has been in business as long as I have....since 1974....are irresponsible. I'm not saying I'm perfect either, but properly set up and adjusted, it's a good system....instant cold starting and fast idle.

Mercury Marine and Yamaha were still in a partnership into the 2000's. The 2003 Mercury four stroke 225 EFI model is a 2002 Yamaha F225TXR painted black. Known as a Mercaha by Mercury owners.

Mercury Marine used many Yamaha power plants on Mercury branded smaller HP models also into the 2000's.

Great. Thanks, Boscoe. I understand the collaboration Yamaha/Mercury. What I'm addressing is the "Mariner/Mercury". The Mariners became Mercury's after Yamaha no longer produced them. Brunswick Corp. kept the Mariner name over the Mercury motor....basically just in appearance. You may remember Montgomery Wards motors. Different cowling, but completely manufactured by Johnson Evinrude.

Thanks. Great info, Fun Times. Galamb was top notch, sure miss him. Joe Reeves another....just don't make "em any better than these guys....Racer has helped so very many over the years too, it's all just to often challenge the mind as we age. This site needs to set up a "Wall of Fame".

Yes and thank you @timguy , hope Galamb and all the other past members are still up and running doing their best things in this world even if they just got burned-out in the boating forum life... A lot of good help from the early years of forums like these getting started in-and-around 2001ish+ 'and though for the most part 'these forums do continue onwards with good help too, 'sometimes you just need to go back through history to keep the aging mind updated. ;)
To all the regular contributing forum members both here and elsewhere, try to take good care of yourselves maintenance wise as well as the engines you love to help out there. :)

Hi All, i have a mercury outboard that I cannot work out what size or year it is. Serial number is 9435626. From what i can from the threads it's a 1986 model. I thought it was a 35HP but i have no idea.

If the engine really is a 35HP, then the year looks to be a 1985.
