After being woken in the middle of the night to screams of "THE BOATS ON FIRE" we are in shock and extremely devastated. As you could imagine!
Our Evinrude motor was purchased in March 09 and had only 15hrs on it.
The boat was parked in the yard and we had taken the family out on it just 4 days prior. My suspicion is that there quite possibly could have been a fault within the motor and after doing some searching have found that there was A LOT of recall notices on particular Evinrude models (including ours). Now I did get one of these notices just 2 months after purchasing it telling me that there was a fault with the vapor separator. I was shocked that this had happened after spending close to $13,000. so straight away took it back for them to replace the part.
We are extremely lucky that this didn't happen when we had taken the family out and that the 40ltrs of fuel didn't blow the thing up!!
The whole thing just doesn't seem right. It's not at all difficult to see that the entire fire was located ONLY on the motor and the heat has warped and damaged the back of the boat.
Has anything like this happened to anyone??
Does anyone have any thoughts as to how this has started??
Is it possible that the vapor separator was still at fault for this, or maybe something electrical??
Thanks
