ive just started stripping down the cooling system on my mercury 7.5 hp blueband thunderbolt ignition.its made in belgium and the serial number is 9264727 . can any one tell me what year this is and where i can get a manuel for it. thanks. ive started stripping her down as she wasnt throwing any water out the water outlett( a tiny trickle) changed the impeller, stil no joy so opend up what i believe to be cooling chamber where the water enters and exhaust gasses exit.this was clogged and blocked with sand and grit.however after removing the cover the 2 rubber gaskets are perished and theres a metal exhaust plate ( i think thats what it is) this seems warped . so wandering if all these gasketts and stuff are still available for what i fear might be quite an old engine.any help or advice would be much appreciated. please excuse my ignorance as its my first ever engine strip.thanks.

Check the plastic washer at the top of the water tube.-----It may be melted due to severe overheat and blocking waterflow.--------------Remove engine to inspect this.-------------Gaskets are available everywhere and easy to make as well.

still no joy at identifying my engines age/year of manufacture. checked out loads of websites, cant find my serial number on any given list.any help be much welcome.also should i be using 50-1 fuel oil ratio? have tried 25-1 and it seems ok! cant order any parts/manuels without year and model.

First year of blue was 72---------------------Go to---------- nymarine ------------website and use Mercury decal info to try and determine the year.

This engine almost looks more like a 1980/81 Model, But it could also be a 1978 as well.

Info found in link below.
7,5 hp, Serial number 9246206 - Should = 1980/1981. Also see, 75 (7,5) 9167506 - 1978.

Racerone's suggestion of comparing decals is a good idea and should hopefully be a little more helpful to you. Below is the link to do the comparison with, Good luck with it.
