Help Boat has no power

"I'm new to boating and just boat a used 98 Stingray with a Mercruiser engine. Had it out several times with no problems, but went to use it today and could barely get enough speed to get up on the plane. RPM's would go to about 3400, but could get the speed above mid 20's. Turned around and then the speed would barely hit 20.

Any suggestions what to look at?"

"Or maybe the tank vent (on the outside of the transom - a little chrome fitting) could be plugged with insect nest, or dirt dobber nest, more likely. Poke a wire into the opening. Or the rubber hose that connects the tank to the vent could be plugged, kinked, or sagging and full of gas. Happened to me and 'bout drove me around the bend finding it. Good luck. JW in Dixie"

"when you pull the fuel filter dump it into a clear bottle or container and look for trash, if there is a lot of trash. you might have to pull the carb and clean the internal filters.. just ran into the same problem with my 5.7L"

doesn't matter unless it runs on something other then gas. it's just a little smaller but same concept
 
The fuel line ended up having

The fuel line ended up having a kink in it. Replaced the line and it's running great again.
