"I'm hopping you guys can help me, I'm 200miles from a VP dealer..I was running fine around 190 degrees when all of a sudden it went up to 210...The water was a-bit low,,had the drive up but not to high as to run dry,,water was dirty and had some sea-weeds in the fishing spot we went too....I first checked the raw-water pump, it was fine, flushed out the water lines to the drive all fine, checked and cleaned the thermostat, looked fine,,started the motor and found water pumping great to the motor and exhaust ...What is wrong??? temp is still running around 210
Any help would save a vacation....Bert"

"Have you actually checked the operation of the thermostat? It sounds like this could be your problem. The stat has nothing to do with how much water the engine is flowing from the exhaust (as long as the raw water pump is pumping you will have flow from the exhaust), but if the stat is faulty it wont allow water to flow through the block to acually cool the engine.
Hope this helps"

"If the T'Stat checks out

"If the T'Stat checks out Ok, I'd check for the possibility that you sucked up some weed into the heat exchanger. I'm assuming from the engine size and normal temp that its Fresh Water cooled ?? If not...ignore the heat exchanger part of this post. If the tubes in there are blocked off, even partially, you will have a problem.
It's hard to tell what is raw "enough" water flow. These engines need a LOT of water. An engine your size if pumps about 40 gallons per min when running at wide open."

"I found a marine parts dealer

"I found a marine parts dealer in AZ,,I replaced the stat with a VP stat and checked the raw water empellar again..It's still running hot according to the temp.gauge"

"I ran it alittle today and found that if I pull the temp. wires off the alarm would sound and the gauge goes down, when I re-install the wire the motor is running around 220,,is it the sending unti or could it be the gauge.."

The alarm system is designed t

The alarm system is designed to detect a missing wire. Pulling the wire off the gauge in a normal working system will cause exactly what you saw.
