Help - 1999 johnson 70 hp 4 stroke

'Hard' codes are errors that persists.
If corrected, like change of defective sensors, the ECM will go back to normal.
The codes may then be deleted, but should not re-appear.
For history reasons, just leave the codes, thy do no harm if stored, just like a log.
PS:
If remembering right those sensors comes as a 'kit'.

Morton is right...they come together, but only because they are all wired into one harness plug. AND they are testable!!! Just test them. Factory manual tells how, but I seem to remember that all you have to do is put a meter on the leads, and pass a screwdriver near the metal button that extends out of the plastic housing. Something like that....very easy to test. Other than that, since they are both wired into the same harness plug, maybe just plug and unplug that 4 wire connector...re-seat it....

Hi All,

I was just checking in to let you all know I fixed the problem with the Johnson today. I traded it in on a 2011 E-TEC Evinrude. I have never been in a pontoon boat with the power this New 90 HP is putting out. It was amazing on the test runs but now to wait for the weekend to go fishin and cruzin. The actual problem with the Johnson was the Computer and it was hard to find and maybe obsolete so I opted for the 5 yr Warranty on the E-TEC and Now I am ready to roll.

Thanks for all your input on this thread it was much appreciated.

So di you ever solve the problem? My 1999 Evinrude /Suzuki 70 HP is running good until it reaches 3300 RPM, then it cuts out all together. Restarts no problem but consistently shuts down at 3300???

Check the shift smirch on the motor.-----Repeat , it is found on the motor linkages.----If it tells the computer on this Suzuki that motor is in neutral , you cam mot go at full throttle.

my 2002 johnson 70hp 4 stroke efi is doing this same thing. it started off bogging down with any load in gear but when idling up not in gear, the motor purrs like a kitten. I am curious if you resolved your issue? I am suspecting my issue is a dirty fuel vapor separator. I am going to tear it apart in 3 days to check.
