HELP 1979 Johnson 175 only 3 k with load

I have a 1979 Johnson it has

I have a 1979 Johnson it has been rebuilt with 12 hrs on new eng. sat up for 3 yrs. Just rebuilt carbs new starter coil and ignition coil. all the other coils seem to spark ok and eng will rev up to 6 and 7000 rmp when in neutrl. but not in gear it will only run 3000 in gear in water. What could it be???? thank you for any help....

A little bit of advice is not to rev that engine up to six and seven thousand Rs You will hear a loud bang and the parts will pass you.
If you have good spark then I would start with taking the carbs off and clean throughly.
check the whole fuel system and replace fuel lines and bulb if stiff or cracked. Mine did the same thing the first time I put her in the water this spring and I redid my fuel system and now is performing good.

" Thanks I have replaced the entire fuel system line, bulb,and filter. The carbs were just rebuilt. replaced the cables also. also put 3/8 fuel line in. I put a glass filter also in the fuel line to check for debri. in line looks good. it still only runs 3k in gear. any other HELP!!!pls "

"You should have approx 100+ psi compression and the readings being even on all cylinders.

With the s/plugs removed you should have a strong blue lightning like flame that will jump a 7/16" gap, a really strong wide blue snap!

The throttle butterflies must of course be opening fully.

If the above are as they should be, I would suspect that possibly the brass fixed high speed jets, which are located in the bottom center portion of the float chambers, have been overlooked and are still clogged somewhat.

If so, clean them manually with a piece of mechanics wire, a paper clip etc. Let us know how you make out.
