HELP- 15hp 1980s with missing restart clip

I am remodeling a boat and was given a 1980s 15hp johnson without the restart clip. Is there a way to rig it up without buying a new clip? What information does anyone have on the actual restart clip?

​Boobie: On the steering handle for the motor there is a place for a "restart clip" that is attached to a red button on the very end next to the throttle. It is connected to a landyard that you are meant to wear when running the motor so if you were to fall out of the boat, the motor would turn off automatically. Of course, this restart clip did not come with the motor. I have been trying to start the motor (replaced spark plugs, fuel hose), but it wont start and I am thinking it is because of the missing restart clip.

I have found a part number that I "think" is the right clip. The part number for that is 0431808 OMC. I was just wondering if there is a way to hold the button in without paying $4.99 for a replacement clip and $7.50 in shipping.

Follow the wires coming out of the handle and temporarily disconnect them. This will eliminate the button so you can trouble shoot the motor.
