[Help] 150 Optimax overheating at idle

Hi there guys. The family has a 36 foot aluminium boat. The boat has sat for 4 years and we are putting it back on the water just now. The motor(2010 150 2-stroke Optimax serial number 1B801316) has been run on water hose for these years and always sounded a long continuous beep after running for a few minutes on the hose. We thought it was just a hose pressure issue and never gave it much attention(The engine was always shut-off after the alarm sounded). Last weekend the boat finally came back in the water for general systems testing. After the engine started and idled for a few minutes the alarm came on again. The alarm came once at 51c or 124f temperature and then(after the engine was shut off for 10 minutes and turned on again), came on at 41c or 105f. I could visualize no water flow at all from the tell tale. I tried unclogging it with a needle and had no luck.

After that weekend I spent some time online reading and it seems like I could have a clogged strainer that leads water to the air compressor, hence the fact that the tell tale expels water from the air compressor. The boat hasn't gone off the docs(yet) to test the engine in other load and rpm conditions. Tomorrow I am going to the boat again (180 mile trip) to remove the strainer and see if it fixes the issue. The reason why I think it is the strainer clogged is the due to the fact that the alarm came on at such a low engine temperature. I have no device to tell me which sensor came on, since the displayed temperature on the smart-craft monitor was so low, and the tell tale had no flow, I am thinking the strainer is the culprit .Am I on the right path here? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
