Hey Guys,

I was out on the water today and ended up having a major issue. Essentially, if i got the boat above 6mph the outboard would essentially shift back to nuetral immediatly. Its a 2002 mercury 60 hp outboard on a 17 foot deep v boat. We ended up taking like 4 hours to get back to launch it was awful. It also feels like the prop is spinning to easily with less resistance. Im guessing the gear teeth are stripped but i want to get your guys opinions. Thank u in advance

Spin the prop in gear and look at the nut holding the prop on. If the shaft is not spinning with the prop replace the prop and see how it goes.

It wont let you insert image? I think what he is saying is that your hub inside the prop is messed up and that is why he asked you to spin it and see if its turning with the nut. So, if the prop turns and the nut turns- (the same)- that would partially eliminate that----unless its spinning (slipping) under pressure (in gear). So since you can't upload the photo answer his question about whether the prop and shaft (nut) are all turning together or if the prop is slipping on the shaft. Keep working on uploading- maybe the pic is too large-or not jpg.

Hey Guys!

Thank you so much for all your help. My brother in law ended up taking off the prop and just like you guys said it looks the the hub was conpletly jacked up and stripped. I just ordered a new prop that should solve the problem. Thanks again guys!
