Hi

I have a glastron ssv175 with merc 4.3 alpha 1, the stearing is very heavy, the right amount of hydralic fluid is in the res and there's no leaks that i can see, is there a pump that may have broken.

thanks in advance for any help.

Time to disconnect the cable from the steering arm at the transom inside the boat and see if the steering gets easier. If it does not time for a new steering cable.

With the steering cable removed see if the outdrive can be moved side to side with minimal effort. If it is stiff try lubricating every steering pivot point w/30 wt. engine oil. Use a grease gun w/2-4-C grease on all of the outdrive zerk fittings.

Ayuh,.... Before ya go out, 'n buy a new cable,...
Pull it outa the aluminum tube at the transom...
They tend to corrode inside it, causing the problem you state...

Maybe the PS pump or rhe steering servo/cylinder is shot, if it steers just as hard with or without the engine running?

As the other guys mentioned, check all that stuff. I had the same thing happen to me and it was the cable. It got worse over time, and I was amazed how well it worked after replacing.
