heavy exhaust - running rich?

I have a 1967 Johnson 80 hp outboard. It seems to be running a little rich. The exhaust is pretty heavy when sitting and idling. I saw elsewhere on this forum that the 50:1 mixture should be maintained for proper lubrication. Is there an additive or something else I can do to run cleaner? I always feel like I am "smoking out" people at the dock or on adjacent boats.

Thanks!

50:1 is the correct mixture for proper lubrication of the parts.----Visit a BRP dealer and buy some newer oils as they do not smoke as much.
