"That's ironic for the recommendation for DEX-COOL comes straight from the Crusader Owner's Manual (circa 2003). My limited knowledge of the DEX issue shows it is a compatibility issue with the plastics in the gaskets, not any metals in the cooling system.
Last time I checked, the heat exchangers are still copper based metal alloys which are typically soldered/brazed at the joints. I'm no chemist but it seems hard to believe something compatible with cast iron and aluminum wouldn't work well with a copper alloy. The plastics compatibility is above my level.
Independent of the specific coolant type used, as long as the cooling system is maintained properly, there shouldn't be any issues, at least with the older engines. They run cooler than the newer designs and have a proven track record."
