Head Gaskets

What's the difference in the two head gaskets? Do both need sealant?

Your cylinder heads are warped.-----So resurface them to be flat.-------???----It clearly states that sealer is not needed !!

I would say the black one is the newer version. Why the change?? I dunno. "New and improved" as they might say.

It also could be just a change in vendor. We see that a lot in heavy equipment repair.

Dial indicator is very useful tool when checking example the condition of cylinder head sealing-surfaces. Of course, when putting new head gasket, sealing-surfaces must be cleaned very well, all old gasket material must remove. And when putting all back together, bolts must be tight with right order, evenly, and right moment. No extra sealer.

I have seen both these colors on automotive head gaskets too. McCord used the red color and most others, save Felpro, use black.
