Head cover gasket or water jacket

Recently had to remove head cover plate on my 90 hp 2 stroke for access to stubborn spark plug. Damaged gasket in the process. Got one on the way in the mail but wondering if adhesive will be needed when installing new gasket? I’m thinking yes because the old one left remnants around edge that I have been cleaning off for new gasket. Appreciate any info.

I recommend it, yes. These are often flimsy castings and a sealant will help insure a leakproof repair.
