Having some trouble

My motor starts and goes into gear fine. My problem is when I try to go it will rev and not go anywhere almost like it's in neutral but if I lift the motor up and open the throttle up it seems to be functioning fine. The prop is spinning good and the motor revs fine when it's lifted out of the water. I used the motor the other day and it worked perfectly, this problem started today after being in some flooded timber. Anyone have any ideas?

Here's a picture to show what model because I have no idea on the year

If it is spun and it sure sounds like it you normally can't see anything. Put adjacent marks on the inner and outer parts of the hub. Try it again and if the marks are no longer lined up the prop is spun. Or you can have a prop shop check it (and they can fix it). Those 25 Mercs are famous for spinning props.

If it is would I be better off getting it fixed or getting a new prop? The prop that's on there is already beat up some.

I've got paint on the right part don't I?
I hooked the motor up to the hose and started it and I have no sign of slippage (paint still in the same spot)
I'm thinking for it to slip it may need to be in water because then it would have some resistance but I could be wrong.

Of course it has to be in the water on the boat.-----------Running in the driveway there is---------- NO WORK TO DO FOR THE PROP--------At any rate it sure looks like is slipping from what I see in first picture !!!!!

"Solas Model #8101/4X12RM, which is a 10 1/4 inch by 12 pitch propeller that came off a 2004 25-HP Mercury Outboard 2-stroke"
Could anyone tell me if that will work with my motor? The prop I took off was 48-43586-13.

Ralo got your message, im new to this my self however most of the regular contributers are very sharp and not limited to on paticular brand, 30 plus years as a marine mech but find myself learning new thins every time i visit this site...By the way you might consider staying with a aluminum prop a stainless prop can damage the lower unit gears if you get tangled up again. you can ck this web sites parts dep for application on the prop you mentioned...

What will the difference performance wise be between a 3 and 4 blade?
The number on the side of my prop is 48 43586 A20 13P
I've read that when you go to stainless it's good to drop the pitch 2 degrees. That one I posted about is just one degree less than my aluminum one. Could that give me major issues?

I only drop it one pitch if the new prop is a 4 blade. "Aluminum is more forgiving" to an extent. Hitting a BFR (Big F... Rock) or submerged island or log at WOT; neither one will prevent L/U damage.
