I inherited an old Alumicraft Jon boat with a 67-69 era Mercury 650. It has a jet... not a prop. It ran for about an hour on the river and left me sit. so... I have rebuilt the carbs, replaced all the fuel lines (the primary culprit as it was sucking air), plugs, plug wires, timing belt to the dist. You would not think that this would change the shifting on this machine as I have not dropped the lower unit (which I am intending to do next to swap out the water pump). Whatever has changed... it is something I have touched in the motorhead or the cables. I don't get it. It is pretty straightforward. The cable constricts when throwing it into reverse, and the reverse plate drops over the jet. I push it forward into N and the plate lifts. I push it to go forward... and nothing happens. I am considering pulling apart the throttle control box next... but I haven't touched it. Why would something have changed?
