Hi again I opened the cap of my distributor to find this, I am told it is a older version of a electronic ignition conversion. Is this true? and if so where can I find one to buy? What is the model name and part # if anyone knows.

Thanks

Sorta looks like this ????

Try here..

E-Basic Power
177 Fulford Drive
Harkers Island, NC

252.504.3355

The one above lists for $149.95.

If nothing else, these folks can probably point you in the right direction.

Thanks appreciate the effort in finding the part. Does anyone know if the Pertronix Ignitor is any different than this module? Performance or otherwise?

:)

contender31,
This may be the ignition module that you'll find in your Prestolite Ignition distributors. If not the exact same, it will be very similar to yours!
eBasicPower.com has them for $150. (+ shipping)

I believe that this is what the full kit will look like........( $215 )

With either kit, you'll be replacing these components only, all else would remain the same: driven gear, shaft, bushings, housing, advancing mechanism, etc!
This is why I recommended that you have your Prestolites checked and/or set up correctly on a Distributor Machine, and by a qualified Tech. Add maybe another $100 each.

An e-Bay seller, Chimptoast, is offering a Mallory YLM 624 AV for $170. (+ $11 shipping)
(Minus shipping, that is $10 more than what the module will cost..... and $45 less than the complete module kit!)

I believe that he also has the BV (RH engine) as well, if you were to ask!
The auction states "reconditioned".
I have had my hands on several of these, including several that I have purchased for shop use. They appear to have been recalled for a correction or ????? , rather than being used......... they do not appear to be used! I know of several others who have also purchased these.

Why the YLM 624 AV?????
Mallory has a great reputation in this arena! They have been in the business for many years.... offering both Street and Marine Ignition systems of many types.
You can search this and find more info re; the relationship between these companies.
Prestolite Performance, the parent company of benchmark brands Mr. Gasket, Mallory, ACCEL, Lakewood, Hays, and AnchorTrax, has announced the ....................

The YLM series uses a VR (variable reluctor) triggering mechanism...... NOT Hall Effect.... NOT Photo Eye! VR has been in use for decades! They rarely fail!

With this purchase, you'd get; new driven gear, new shaft, new bushings, new housing, new advancing mechanism, cap, rotor, etc.
No Hall Effect, no potentially worn advancing mechanism, gear, bushings, etc. etc.
All near perfect, if not brand spanking new.

NOTE: I have no association or connection with this seller! My interest is in passing along a great deal to others.

Just a thought! :)

I replaced both my prestolite ignitors in the last couple of years. Paid $70 each. Prestolite #65-191. I had one failure after about 25 years of service.

Dave - where did you gets yours for that price? I have the same setup on my '88 454's and assume they're original. The springs and weights are ok, mechanical advance works so I'd like to have a spare on the boat given the age.

Does anyone know the difference between the 189 and the 191?

If anyone has upgraded and still has a good/used Prestolite for sale shoot me an email.

Bob

I bought 2 from lighthouse marine in 2009. Paid 69.95 each. Today's search on their site did not produce any results, though...
They called it a PRS65-191
Although only one failed, both had heavy exterior corrosion (zinc or pot metal). They did last a very long time.
