Hey Everyone,

Iam wanting some advice on a motor currently i have a 2 stroke 75 2003 Mecury with 400 hours on a 5.25 stacer it is way underpowered for 3 big lads onboard going deep sea fishing so it is chewing fuel just trying to get up on the plane. I have been offered by a boat shop a 1999/2000 115hp 2 stroke bluewater series Mecury outboard with 345 hours. It has had a compression test and each Cylcinder has come back exaclty the same at 147. They want $4000 dollars for this motor and will give me $3000 trade in on mine. So all up with the new motor fitted they have quoted me $1300 dollars drive away with a 5month warranty on the 115hp they have supplied me.

My question is- Am I getting a good Deal? Has anyone heard any bad reports about these motors? Will this rectify my fuel problems to a degree? I dont want to spend anymore than 1500 so a four stroke is out of the question.

I have a 2002 115 hp 2 stroke and it runs great.
Am I getting a good Deal?
Price them separately on Nada and compare. If they price the same and the dealer only wants $1300 to change them in your boat; not a bad deal. If your engine or his engine prices more then it is a good deal.

Thanks Mate,

I must admit The 75 merc i have on the boat now has been a dream, I tried on Nada and it doesnt show those models as I am in Australia it keeps asking me for a ZIP code. Can you recomend anymore sites that are AUS friendly?

I understand that pricing for boats in AUS is much higher than in USA, nearly double. I purchased my 2002 17' fish/ski ProCraft w/trailer and 2003 Merc 115 HP 2 cycle engine w/low hours for $6,000 US which was NADA's total price.

My 115 HP engine average retail value is listed at $2,585 and the dealer wants $4,000 AUS for his 115 HP engine. Your 75 HP engine is valued by NADA in the USA at $2,040 and the dealer is offering $3,000 AUS which to me makes your deal fair if not good.

Do you know what HP the boat was rated to handle? The USA boats have a BIA placard with the info inside them. The rule of thumb was to power the boat to 85% of that rating. You do not need 100% unless you are going to a fire. :D

Can't say if the price is a good deal in AU dollars. I would not know the real value of the money. USA bucks are a$$-paper. :(
