Hard to cold start 2007 Yamaha 20 4stroke

"I have a 2007 Yamaha 20 hp 4-stroke manual start. It is very hard to start when cold, but runs fine and restarts easily when warm. I recently had the carb. cleaned but it did not help. What should I check on it or do to it. PLEASE help me as I am getting very frustrated with it! Thanks in advance!!"

"I have the exact same motor, mine starts on the first three pulls then stalls. After that it's very hard to get running. Once I'm able to get it running and warmed up it runs fine. Dealer told me all new motors are hard to start when new... Sounds like we could be having the same problem. I am long past frustrated. Can't get help from the dealer. If we find a solution maybe we could talk."

"it only has 1 carb on it. I figured out what was wrong. Fuel was getting to the carb and i was getting spark, so I opened the carb and found a tiny piece of something in the pilot jet. I blew this out with an air compressor and it cranked right up. This is about the 4th time I have gotten trash in the carb AND I just had the carb completely cleaned less than a month ago. Any suggestions on how to prevent this?"

"Are you running Star Tron? Ethenol is a night mare. I ran another fuel additive, Pri-G, the gasoline verision of Pri-D, that I run in my diesels. I chose this because Pri-D is one of the best for diesels. I also had the same problem. Had to switch to star-tron because of ethenol. You you run with a primary and secondary fuel filter? There is an inline under the hood of the engine, that should really be the secondary. YOu should have a spin on one inbetween the motor and the tank if possible. Where are you getting your fuel?"
