"hello: just got boat, (1994 Wellcraft 243) out of winter storage. Had boat in reverse to clear weeds from prop. Shifted into forward and heard load "clunk". Now seem to have lost trim/tilt and have intermittent steering problem...boat will not turn. Sitting at dock wheel turns lock to lock with one finger. Under power, have heavy feedback in wheel. Engine is 5.7GL with duoprop. Can control plane with trim tabs but something is definitely wrong and feels unsafe. Any ideas what I'm looking at here? Thanks for your comments."
 
I have same engine in a 2004 F

I have same engine in a 2004 Four Winns 268 Vista. We had it serviced with similar steering problems. We had to have the steering cable replaced and steering column due to stripped gear teeth. The power steering actuator was leaking fluid and we were basically driving around with little or no fluid. I would look there first.

well...looked at boat this morning...engine compartment floor had all the power steering fluid on it...reservoir was empty...now to find the leak I guess..."
