Have an 8hp 1995 Evinrude that has set for a while. Cleaned the carb and new plugs. Started after 6 pulls with a small shot of carb cleaner. Runs good and warmed up and set idle smoothe as always with air screw. Stoped and re started fine several times first pull. Let it set for 10 minutes and would not start without a small shot of carb cleaner. Idles smoothe. Every time it sets a while it fails to start. Any Ideas?

Did you replace the little rubber tube #25 ?-----Did you clean the tiny orifice found on part #27?---------Are you using the choke to restart after 10 minutes?

The rubber tube was great shape and re fit tight. I took the orfice out of the plastic housing and cleaned it. Also new pad below it. I don't use choke when trying to restart it after 10 minutes but try the choke when it fails to start. That does not work ether. So I give it a very small shot of carb cleaner, Very small, and it starts right away. And it restarts first pull for every time. But let it set 10 minutes. NO start. I don't have a gauge to check the float like the book shows but its set just at level with housing with out the gasket.

That is what I have done but I will double check and make sure its correct. Also I have the cam timing mark set correct. I don't try the choke after the 10 minute cool down for fist pull, shouldI?

Try using the choke after 10 minutes cool down.-----That should do it.-------Are you opening up throttle a bit for that restart ?--------------Float level is not that critical for the " cold starting issue "

I will try both tomorrow, and see if it helps. Is there any thing different on float level other than level with housing with gasket off?

The float should be even and parallel with the housing when upside down !----Float level is often wrongly blamed for a host of problems.---------Most folks have not taken the time to ask or learn how to start a motor like an outboard.------They are however used to starting a modern car -----------Just " push the button " and roar down the road !
