Hanging motor to work on lower end.

1950's 5.5hp. Can the universal puller #378103 and lifting eye #321537 be used to hang the complete motor to allow working on the lower end? The manual shows the tools only being used to lift the power head from the lower end. But the 3 bolts used on the puller and the threaded holes in the flywheel are very small and shallow (unlike the large special tools and holes used on the larger outboards).

The problem you will have is the powerhead needs to be removed to service the waterpump. It has a 1 piece shift rod that disconnects under the powerhead

That's true. You couldn't work on it swinging around anyway. If you don't have a boat or stand to clamp it to, do you have a large vise you can put a short piece of 2 X 6 in as a mount? Heck, even a 2 X 6 nailed to the shed or something.

Thanks for the comeback. Will pursue other options for getting the motor mounted securely using the motors mounting bracket.
