Ground Feed back from 15hp evinrude through speakers

Hi all,

I am experiencing something that is absolutely crazy, I rigged up a 15 hp evinrude with controls, this didn't have any wiring coming from it so I had to make it all up. Meaning it was a 15ELCEC but the starting solenoid was missing and I didnt have any room in the motor so I remotely located it in the back of the boat.

The wiring from the throttle control was cut at the controler so I also had to makeup all the wiring to the outboard for the key start.

I have everything running perfectly and install a radio. suddenly when I start the motor it is thumping through my stereo. so I start the process of isolating things, every F@#*ing connection, and finally I totally isolate the power to the stereo by bringing in a seperate battery. Both Positive and negative leads on isolated battery it still has feedback????

I checked the polarity of the speakers....fine.

I must have some kind of electromagnetic field of sorts that is being picked up?

I just replaced the rectifier hoping it was that but nope still there.

ANY SUGGESTIONS, all are welcomed. I already know this is something that I have created...like a ground loop or something

Thanks Chris

Do you have a filter on the radio itself? You may need one. Are you running resistor plugs?

What type of filter for the radio? I had it running on its own separate battery so it was isolated from everything on the boat. But I will try anything?

Yes to the resistor plugs. QL77JC4's

Thanks Chris

That motor does not normally have a stater solenoid does it? No reason why you should not fit one remotely though

They are the correct plugs but the "Q" denotes inductive suppression.. Resistor plugs would not be correct for the engine

Keep all your wiring for the radio away from the wiring for the engine and the rest of the boat.

Do you get this interference when using just the stereo or only when using the radio ?

I think my 6 hp rope start engine interfere with the radio but I'd not normally have the radio on while the engine is running. I guess if I need to use the VHF RT I'd stop the engine.
You don't get any radio interference from sails ... I recommend them
