Grinding Noise

I have a 2003 Blue Water boat with a Volvo Penta 5.0GL engine. Two weeks ago, I took it out into the water. First day in water was fine. Second day, the engine started making a loud grinding noise. It's worst when turning. Is this something that I could possible fix at home or should I take it in to a professional? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Time to pull the drive and inspect the gimbal bearing and drive shaft.

I agree with Chris.
This needs to be done anyway, and along with annual engine drive coupler alignment check.

Also, and since you mentioned that "the engine started making a loud grinding noise", make sure that your starter motor is not staying engaged.
We have no idea as to what this sounds like.
