Dear all, I just bought a Higgins 27 ft bridge erection boat from 1951 and I am searching for spark plugs for the 2x Gray Marine Six-244 engines. Searching hours and hours on the internet did not help to find anything (originals) yet. The spark plugs currently installed on the engines are extremely rusted and do not show any details (make and/or type).
I recently contacted Van Ness Engineering and they were so kind to let me know that it would be smart to move towards a modern system. They did not provide any additional detailed information.
The only info I have is:
- tread size 14x1,25mm
- thread reach 11mm (7/16") or so
The current spark plugs are watertight and military shielded, because of the poor availibity and prices of these spark plugs - I am looking for a modern common replacement type.
To fit the modern type spark plugs, I need to modify the watertight cables as well. I am thinking to just cut-off the watertight connector and place an universal spark plug cap. Or search for spark plug cables with a watertight connector on one end and a modern connector on the other (probably won't exist).
Any advise or information is really helpfull.
Thank you - kind regrands from the Netherlands!
