I Have A 1987 Grady White Seafarer With A 4.3, There Is A Issue With The Bendix On The Starter And want To Know If There Is Enough Room To Take The Starter Out With Out Removing The Engine,The Boat Is Wrapped For The Winter,Trying To Prepare Myself, Thanks

I highly doubt that a 1987 GM 4.3L engine is fitted with a Bendix drive starter motor.
It's more likely to be a non-gear reduction Delco style.

Tip:
Use a six point wrench or socket only!
Warm the engine up prior to cracking the two vertical bolts loose.
If need be, you can finish the job once things cool down.

Huh,..??..??

Chevy starters, Always have, 'n still do use a bendix drive,.....

I'm with Chris on this 1,....
It's Never easy, but I've always been able to pull the starter on the many boats I work on,...

If that starter has never been removed I would unwrap it enough to start squirting some PB Blaster or other catalyst penetrating oil on the bolts and nuts. Time is on your side now so squirt it 1 - 2 times/week. Just a few drops each time. JMHO

Only had 2 occasions that needed the motor pulled. One needed the front motor mount removed to jack the motor up to remove the starter. Another didnt have the cutout in the stringer under the starter.
