Got me stumped 1977 188 hp

I HAVE A 1977 SKIFFCRATFT boat with a Merc Crusier 188hp 8 cyl engine. The problem is when I was running the boat the other day about 3/4 throtle it just shut off like I turned off ignition switch. I tried everything while on the lake but could not get started,and had to be towed in.Brought boat home and have worked on for two days with no good results.I consider myself having some mechanical abillity but this has got me stumped. So far I have replaced iginion ignitor(this was but in years ago replacing points),rotor,dist cap.timing is right on, carb is getting gas and compression very good.Checked spark at coil and plugs OK.If anyone has a idea I sure would be gratefull. Don

Ok you got spark and fuel, compression good then it would start.

It's cranking good ? You got a kill switch ?

the carb may be getting fuel . Question is the engine getting fuel...with the timing and good blue spark , the fuel must ignite.

give the intake a shot of fuel see if it trys to run .

Thought I would let you all know what I found with my engine and maybe would save someone the hours of fustration I had. The problem was a defective tach causing engine to shut down, Thanks for your help. Don
