Got Clacking Lifters?

The starboard 360 engine in my big boat has a lot of time on it. The lifters clattered like crazy after sitting a week or so, and took several minutes to quiet down. Added some Lucas Oil Stabilizer and the they quieted down in seconds. Then came Old Man Winter. Thanks to such a long winter I had to let the poor motor sit a full 6 months. I thought, "Oh brother, are those lifters gonna clack away!" Fired her up and FIVE seconds later all was quiet. Damn good stuff.

"But wait..." (as they say in the "Only 19.95!" commercials in TV): I have a BAD collapsed lifter in my old PT Cruiser. It happens now and then, and goes away in a 1/2 hour or so, but yesterday it refused to quiet down. Worried about dropping a valve, I stopped at a local auto store and bought a bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilzer. Added half a bottle, started her up and headed home. I made it 1,000 feet--ONE THOUISAND FEET!-- and the noise was gone.

Thought you might like to know.

yes, Lucas oil stabilizer is some pretty amazing stuff. I learned from a Caterpillar service technician to use it as assembly lube. I have used it on lots of engines now with great results.

I saw the demo gear display on the parts counter one day that shows how it clings to the plastic gears as you turn the crank like honey so I figured it would work great in my F-150 5.4. ......NOT!!!

The valve train cackled and carried on so bad that first cold winter day I drain it out that night
and went back to straight oil...... ONLY!
