Got ANOTHER serial/model #.. 1758330

Looking to trade straight up for a older Merc 80hp(?) 6cyl. THIS weekend..!!!

The # is: 1758330 from what he told me, and that its' supposedly a 62yr model
Can anyone tell me about this particular motor and if there is anything that I SHOULD know or stay away from?

Thanks for the help. I've been messing with machinery for over 30yrs but never really messed with any water-craft.

I get 850/85HP for that number and 1964. Unless you're into older outboards it might be better to stay away from it,you will need to do a compression test,cold a 120psi would be nice but mainly within 10 - 15 psi down the line.Less than 100 psi you are probably looking at a rebuild.A spark test,check all wires for corrosion and perished insulation.This is a pretty old motor and parts are going to be hard to find,not impossible.Be prepared to trawl ebay.But when you do get it up and running,satisfaction guaranteed,and lots of fun doing it,if you're that way inclined,says he who rebuilt a 1969 Merc800,boy does she run sweet.
The one thing I can guarantee you is that you will be spending lot's of $$$$$$$.Enjoy
