Good Marine Chrysler Mechanic

I just bought a 1974 32" Luhrs power by two 318 Chrysler engines,
210 HP.
The surveyor found that the engines are fitted with Automotive type fuel pumps, and recommended that marine type fuel pumps be installed.
Anybobody knows a reputable mechanic specializing in these engines in Long Beach CA?
Your help is much appreciated

I don't think you will need a spe******t for fuel pumps. Two bolts and 2 fittings(which can be a PITA) but really a pretty straight forward job. The starboard engine may be tough because it will be on the outside but marine mechanics are used to it.

Actually, that boat may well have come with LEGAL fuel pumps (NOT "automotive") pumps since the only difference is the number of fittings: Later pumps have a third fitting that allows fuel passing through a blown diaphragm to go to the carb instead of the base or bilge.

My 1975 Chrysler motors both had the same, two fittings pumps as yours--and they were legal due to the "Grandfather Clause". Only if you replace them must you use the 3 fitting type.

PS: Both of my pumps have since been replaced with the 3 fitting type.

I am less concerned about grandfathering that with a danger of fire if the fuel pump is not of the type that has the fitting that returns fuel to the carburator when the diaphragm fails. Would you agree?
 
I would agree completely. Mostly because as a kid I have replaced 2 fuel pumps on a chevy blazer that had gas running down the driveway. Granted it was chevy not Chrysler but an oz of prevention...............
 
I just replaced a fuel pump on my 78 318 engine. The pump I purchased was a marine grade (made in US) and what a difference form the "China" made one I took off. This new one was heavy and botled together while the auto style pump with the extra vent fitting added was welded or pressed together.
