Goes forward regardless of lever selection

I replaced the cap In the lower unit. Now it only goes forward regardless of lever selection. I have a F40LA.

What is the cap that was replaced?

What is the cap that was replaced?

Probably the water pump housing?

Drop the lower unit again and make sure you get the shift linkage installed correctly
