"Guys-

Thanks for all the info I've read over the past week- as a new owner of a used boat, this forum has been a HUGE help! Been reading and learning for a week but now I need to ask a question...

Recently bought a 97 Cobia with a 4.3L and a V-P Cobra SX outdrive... the previous owner was crazy about maintaining this boat and services were completed regularly. However, when I asked him if he had ever greased the gimbal bearing or u-joints, he told me he hadn't. The owners manual states it's important to do that each season... reading further, it must be completed by a certified technician, not the owner. That's where you come in I hope... Can it be done with a short-cut of some kind, and if so, how badly will this rookie tear it up in the process? Any suggestions would be great... I'm looking forward to posting some more rookie questions soon. Thanks!"

there's a grease zerk fitt

there's a grease zerk fitting on the starboard side of the transom where you can greas the bearing from outside. the u joints can only be greased with the drive removed. You should remove it frequently anyways to check that the rubber cover is intact and that theres no water in there.
