Getting a 93 Mercruiser 4.3LX alpha one gen 2 running again

Just joined this site and first time post.

I have a boat that I haven't used in 4-5 years. It ran great back then except the bellows needed replacing (had alot of water in bilge, not touching motor). I was planning on selling it, but my 15 year old wants to get it running again so we can start using the boat again.

I am already planning on replacing the bellows and probably the gimbal bearing (due to water intrusion through bellows), rebuilding the carb (Weber 4bbl) and pumping old fuel out, changing all fluids, greasing all required spots, replacing the impeller and all the seals on the outdrive (upper and lower). The oils all look good, no water intrusion. It has an open looped water system, but will be replacing the thermostat. Replace sparkplugs, filters and battery. I know $$$$$$$, but we always had a great time in the boat!!

Is there anything else I should consider before starting it back up?

Thanks for any advice, this is a great site!

I thought this was my post! lol...almost exactly what I just went though getting my '95 4.3 Alpha gen 2 ready to go. I don't have any problems with bellows, but I did just do most of the other stuff you mentioned. Blew up my CC on amazon buying stuff. Still got more, but she handled the bay without batting an eye this weekend so at least I can pick my battles now finally. still left, Trim pump bracket rotted out, lights on trailer need replaced, both stereo and vhf radios, patch holes in custom top, hoses need replaced, belts, backup battery, onboard charger............ oh yeah, still plenty to do. Good luck!!!!!

I wasn't even looking at that part of the boat yet! LOL Just wanted to get the motor running after it was sitting there so long! My wife wants this too, so I guess she wll have to understand the CC use. I know boats are money sponges just like my Harley! LOL That is just part of the fun. Good luck on yours!!!!!
