This is my first time on the thread and I'm from Australia; two good reasons to treat me kindly!
I have a Johnston 120 VRO which is bit of an oldie. It has heavy steering and I've discovered that grease from the one central nipple is letting grease to the bottom bearing but not the top one. I've almost got the steering unit out but have noticed a "biro" thick shaft running between the motor and the prop unit, through the hollow, vertical steering shaft. It looks like I'll have to get this out before I proceed further. I'm trying to get the bottom prop unit off but it's come away about half an inch and no further! Any clues?
regards, Gerry, from Down Under.

Need to disconnect the SHIFT ROD, typically from under the front of the power head ( cylinder block )

The shift shaft goes all the way up under the carbs. Disconnect the shift rod and the gearbox should drop. Put a couple bolts back in a few threads until you get it disconnected.

Thanks for the info. I'd worked it out for myself after I'd sent my Email. Amazing how things come to you if you're prepared to stare at it long enough!. The top bush was totally dry and gritty. Have ordered the new bush and seals.
Regards, GerryG.
