I have a 89 Javelin bass boat

I have a 89 Javelin bass boat with a metal flake finish that has been left in the water now for about 2-3 months. My lift is broken and no money right now to replace. I have a water line on the back that has turned milky and looks like a clear coat can peeled off. I 've taken the boat out and cleaned but metal flake has tuned like white. How can I repair this and is there a clear coat over the finish? Its real rough finsh now like sand paper.
Thanks in advance
Rich

"Rich,
Yes there is a clear gelcoat finish over the metal flakes. Unfortunately, with age, time and UV, the clear coat goes away,

It can be repaired, but you will find it much less costly to have the area skinned with putty and sprayed with Awlgrip or Imron. You will loose the metalflake finish, but that really went out in the 80s, so it would actually be an update.

Good luck

"Rick, Thanks for the reply but the whole boat is in metal flake. Couldn't I just wet sand it and spray it with some kind of clear coat in the can, clear or laquer?
Thanks

"As soon as the sandpaper touc

"As soon as the sandpaper touches the metalflake it takes the color off. Then you have silver metalflake anywhere it has been sanded.

You can try the spray cans, but it will take an awful lot of cans to build up a thick enough layer to cover the flake, then you have to sand half of it back off to get it smooth."
